Packaging at TIP Design Studio, balancing sustainability and elegance.
At TIP, our journey with gift packaging has been an evolution, marked by a commitment to sustainability without compromising on aesthetics.
Over the years, we have experimented with various gift packaging approaches, striving to strike a balance between sustainability and the timeless allure of exquisite packaging. In recent years you can find yourself focusing on sustainability above all else and risk introducing at a possible detriment to the beauty, excess, and sensory impact that makes unwrapping the perfect article so memorable. It has taken many years and countless revisions but we are confident that we have found, to the best of our current abilities, a balanced mixture of design principles that remain core to our brand identity within our gift packaging. Simplicity, Elegance, Utility, Tradition, and Artisanship, are interpreted through the lens of Modernity.
A prime example of our recent commitment to sustainable elegance is showcased in our latest range of packaging that we produced in-house for our jewellery collection. The packaging set was comprised of a ring box, a standard chain box, and a chess-themed chain box. We saw these three elements of packaging as one body of work and deemed it to be a priority that each package used and similar array of materials, and followed the same design language. This collection exemplifies our dedication to consistency in design and material selection.
Materials when correctly curated can often speak for themselves so here is an unstructured list of every component that makes up our packaging.
Recycled box board - Providing structural integrity while minimising environmental impact.
Cotton velvet - Adding a touch of luxury and softness to the packaging.
Silk thread - Employed for delicate detailing and secure fastening.
Mount board - Ensuring durability and stability for the packaging.
Archival EVA adhesive - A sustainable adhesive choice for assembling components.
Tissue paper, laid paper, and craft paper - Offering versatility and texture for wrapping and padding.
Inkjet ink - Utilised for branding and decorative elements.
Crepe paper and paper raffia - Adding texture and visual interest to the packaging.
British wool filling - A natural and biodegradable alternative for cushioning.
Gold acrylic ink and archival acrylic varnish - Enhancing the packaging with metallic accents and protective coatings.
Cotton webbing - Providing sturdy handles and closures.
These components are drawn upon time and time again and come together in various configurations to create all our variations of packaging with no limit to future possibilities. Each material addition over time is carefully considered.
